    • It is wonderful to watch. Paul did this specifically for us to photograph and was very patient with us while we tried different settings etc, I also have some of him fire spinning and the like but will wait for the right challenge to post them. 🙂

      • Fantastic. Lucky you, getting all that time to play with settings to get the shots. Can’t wait to see the fire spinning post! :o)

    • It was last year so I will have to dig the original out at the for the settings, on some I did long exposure with a flash at the beginning, some were fast shutter with flash and some were long exposure with no flash. I couldn’t tell you off hand which one this is. I don’t meter Moi, I leave that to the camera I just concentrate on shutter speed, ISO and aperture and hope for the best. 🙂

      • I think (think) I had the flash go off at the beginning (which would explain the darkness of the background) and then a long shutter speed which caught the colour and movement of the fire. I did a lot of experimenting with different settings when I took these, some worked beautifully, others not so much. This was on of my favorites. I will have a look at my external drive this evening and try and find it so I can give you more info on the settings. 🙂

      • Thanks… If it was a long exposure would he not be more blurred as he moved? Don’t spend too much tome on it, but if it is easy to find id be interested.

      • He wasn’t moving much, most of the movement was in the fire. Also this one wouldn’t have been a very long exposure, probably a second or less, however for all I know it could have been fast shutter ha I honestly need to look at the information on the photo. I have it on my external drive somewhere, I am interested to remember the settings now you have brought it up lol.

      • I just looked through the comments from the original post and I had been asked for the settings 🙂 shutter speed 1/160, aperture f5 and a very low ISO, I had my camera on a tripod and used a remote release and had the flash on.
        So there you go 🙂

  1. On one of my ships in the navy there was a young chappie who used to perform this trick. He was invalided ashore for some time after a great night out, I think he sucked when he should have blown or something; and I believe he gave up the practise soon after …
