WPC – Nighttime 2 – Fire
I have posted this one before but it really fitted this challenge so I decided to give it another airing. Mr Parkes doing what he does on the beach at night.
Happily capturing moments in life.

Great shot!
Thanks you very kindly 🙂
Well Mr. Parkes knows how to have a good time, and you knew hot to capture that perfectly!
I need to ask him for another fire evening it is brilliant fun. Thank you 🙂
It’s one HOT photo alright!
🙂 Thank you
Ooooooooh. Nice shot.
Thank you very much indeed 🙂
Wow – an amazing photo of an amazing skill! I love watching it, but I don’t fancy trying it!!
It is wonderful to watch. Paul did this specifically for us to photograph and was very patient with us while we tried different settings etc, I also have some of him fire spinning and the like but will wait for the right challenge to post them. 🙂
Fantastic. Lucky you, getting all that time to play with settings to get the shots. Can’t wait to see the fire spinning post! :o)
Awesome
Thank you very much indeed 🙂
how do you meter this. the black is very black and yet the fire isnt overexposed/underexposed.
It was last year so I will have to dig the original out at the for the settings, on some I did long exposure with a flash at the beginning, some were fast shutter with flash and some were long exposure with no flash. I couldn’t tell you off hand which one this is. I don’t meter Moi, I leave that to the camera I just concentrate on shutter speed, ISO and aperture and hope for the best. 🙂
There is just a superb contrast from blacks to the orange/red of the fire on that photo.
I think (think) I had the flash go off at the beginning (which would explain the darkness of the background) and then a long shutter speed which caught the colour and movement of the fire. I did a lot of experimenting with different settings when I took these, some worked beautifully, others not so much. This was on of my favorites. I will have a look at my external drive this evening and try and find it so I can give you more info on the settings. 🙂
Thanks… If it was a long exposure would he not be more blurred as he moved? Don’t spend too much tome on it, but if it is easy to find id be interested.
He wasn’t moving much, most of the movement was in the fire. Also this one wouldn’t have been a very long exposure, probably a second or less, however for all I know it could have been fast shutter ha I honestly need to look at the information on the photo. I have it on my external drive somewhere, I am interested to remember the settings now you have brought it up lol.
There are some others from this evening in here Moi https://winedrinkingmummy.wordpress.com/2013/07/27/if-you-go-down-to-the-beach-tonight-photos-from-last-nights-shoot/
Wow, they are all good, third one with the circular fire looks like mythical creatures.
Now that one was a long exposure 🙂
I bet… looks great.
I just looked through the comments from the original post and I had been asked for the settings 🙂 shutter speed 1/160, aperture f5 and a very low ISO, I had my camera on a tripod and used a remote release and had the flash on.
So there you go 🙂
Cool, thanks Jo
Beautiful capture, Jo! Sharp and contrasted.
Thank you Stefano 🙂
WOW! I’m sorry I missed this one when I was looking at these entries. This is a.maz.ing!!!
Thank you very much for your lovely comment 🙂
On one of my ships in the navy there was a young chappie who used to perform this trick. He was invalided ashore for some time after a great night out, I think he sucked when he should have blown or something; and I believe he gave up the practise soon after …
HA, it is not something I would try that’s for sure. Amazing to watch though. 🙂
Dramatic shot. Very cool.
Thank you very much indeed 🙂
An incredibly picture, both thematically and technically. Judy
Too kind, thank you very much indeed for your lovely comment 🙂
